Dr. Rob van der Veen is a Dutch trained ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon that practices in Barcelona (Spain) and in Utrecht (the Netherlands). He holds medical license registrations in both countries and is a member of the most important ophthalmological societies in his field of interest:

  • European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS) - Full member
  • Dutch Orbital Society (DOS) - Former board member
  • Sociedad Española de Cirugía Plástica Ocular y Orbita (SECPOO) - Spanish Ophthalmic Plastic and Orbital Surgery Society
  • Nederlands Oogheelkundig Gezelschap (NOG) - Dutch Ophthalmological Society

 

Mr. van der Veen also holds a postdoctoral degree in ophthalmology and is scientifically active in the field. Professional journey - Mr. van der Veen graduated from medical school at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands. During his studies he interned at the former Aruba Eye Institute in Aruba, Dutch Antiles and in the Gold Coast Hospital in Southport, Australia. He then got selected for a PhD research at the department of Ophthalmology at the Maastricht University Medical Center, which led to the publication of his thesis titled ‘Macular Pigment in the Healthy and Diseased Retina’. This research was conducted in collaboration with the University of Manchester, England and the University Hospital of Bonn, Germany.

Subsequently he completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Maastricht University Hospital. Because Mr. van der Veen expressed a keen interest in the field of oculoplastic and orbital surgery early on in his residency, this was rewarded with a clinical oculoplastic and orbital surgery fellowship at the Amsterdam Orbital Center of the University Medical Center of Amsterdam, considered as one of the best in Europe and known worldwide for its elaborate research on Graves orbitopathy and many other orbital and oculoplastic disorders.   

       

After this subspecialty training he worked several years as oculoplastic and orbital surgery consultant at the University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands. During this time he started his private practice now known as VANDERVEEN-OCULOPLASTICS which received the highest overall score for eyelid surgery in the Netherlands by Elsevier magazine in the first years of it´s foundation. In 2019 he started as senior oculoplastic and orbital consultant at Hospital Moisés Broggi in Barcelona, Spain, the largest non-academic hospital of the Spanish peninsula. Next to this, he also served as guest orbital surgeon in Bellvitge University Hospital in Barcelona.
